I know I’m running a little late, but I wanted to share a something for infertility awareness week. I know there are many women struggling in the same journey right now and I also know it helps to feel less alone.
Flip the Script
This year’s theme is “Flip the Script” and it’s all about changing the conversation.
This time last year, I couldn’t even tell you when “Infertility Awareness Week” was. I was still at the beginning of trying to conceive. Still in the “have fun trying…wink wink, nudge nudge” stage. No one tells me to have fun trying anymore. Once you start having to deal with needles, ultrasounds, and hormone altering medications, it kinda takes the fun right out of it.
I am 1 in 8.
I’ve never liked statistics. I certainly don’t like the fact that I am one.
When you are considered “infertile” though, everything is about statistics. Success rates and chance. It’s like every time you pop a pill or pee on a stick, you are rolling the dice and I am just not good at gambling.
Statistics are so clinical. They lack feeling and emotions.
But if you see the faces of those affected. If you hear them speak or read their words, then you may feel a twinge or something. Then, you may understand the impact of it.
So, this Infertility Awareness Week, let’s put faces on the statistics. Do not be ashamed of something that you can’t control. Let’s join the #FlipTheScript movement.
There should be more support and less stigma.
Proclaim it loudly.
I struggle with infertility, but infertility doesn’t own me and it never will.
Until next time!
